Filming Content at the NALP 2024 Conference in Boston
The Background
We connected with our client, Maurisa Jones, through Facebook, as she was looking for a videographer to capture video content for her clients at DueCourse, a coaching platform for Law Firms, while they were in Boston at the 2024 NALP Conference.
She was in search for someone who could direct her clients, make them feel confortable on camera, and be able to successfully conduct interviews on the fly and pull little stories out of the day.
We were a great match for this project.
The Primary Objective
Maurisa and her clients at DueCourse were looking to get a trove of useful footage captured throughout the day that they could use as event-specific content, as well as evergreen content to build out their social media accounts with personable video content.
The Primary Solutions
We decided that the best route would be to capture a shotlist worth of b-roll footage, as well as capture interview footage with the CEO and the Director of Purpose & Programs.
All of this footage would be captured in 4k traditional capture, so that it could later be repurposed, if needed, into 1080p vertical format for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook Reels, & YouTube Shorts. This ensures that the media can be used no matter what changes in the social media landscape down the road.
The Filming Process
I fit everything I needed for a day of capturing footage on the fly in a single (very heavy) backpack. This way, we would be able to be flexible as plans changed (as they often do during event coverage). After arriving in Boston, and traveling to the Hynes Convention Center, I met up with the DueCourse team and filmed b-roll with them at their booth. After the shot list worth of b-roll was systematically captured, we rolled into interviews. After deciding the interviews wouldn’t look their best at the booth because of the lack of natural light in the convention center’s main room, we found a space MUCH more abundant with natural light. The best part is that this new space was buzzing with as much energy as the main room!
At a typically interview filming, we actually wouldn’t want much natural light because I would have my full light kit with me, but as I had to fit everything needed for this day in a backpack, we had to get creative and find the light instead of creating it.
For these interviews, I decided to mic them up with my trusty Sennheiser G3 lavalier microphone. I chose this mic for two reasons. The first being that the setup is relatively small and quick to setup with no additional stand needed. Therefore, they could be easily transported and we could use them anywhere we wanted without blocking space at the actual event. The second reason was because lav mics are very good at blocking out external noise. So the natural loud chatter of the event goers didn’t matter as much and we would be able to conduct these interviews in the middle of the fun!

The Result
We were able to capture a lot of really great footage in a very quick day. In total we captured over 230GB of interview and b-roll footage, which was delivered to the client soon after the event via mailed external hard drive for them to keep.
Here’s what Maurisa had to say about her experience:
And Drew, the CEO of DueCourse, and one of the interviewees at the conference had this to say:
Maurisa and her clients at DueCourse were both amazing to work with. A really easy-going and incredible group of people.
