The Process

Showing up with a camera is just a single part of the process.
The magic is in the details of what happens before and after our photoshoot, too.

Pre-production

Pre-Production is the first step of the process. This is where all the planning happens to assure the project will go smoothly & successfully. This phase includes strategy & creative development, art direction, location scouting, budgeting, & additional logistics preparation.

  • Sometimes you come knowing the goal you need to achieve, but not yet knowing how to get there. In this case, I collaborate with you to figure out the best way to reach that goal.

Other times you come knowing exactly what you need, so my job is primarily to turn it into a reality for you.

I work both ways and I’m happy to conceptualize as much as you need.

  • In photography, there are countless possibilities in how to create your images. This comes from locations/set, to wardrobe, to lighting & coloring of the image. These decisions guide the audience to feel a certain way when they look at the photos. Depending on the project, we sometimes have control over all of these aspects, and sometimes over just a few. But whatever the case, each aspect that we can control is carefully planned and considered.

  • Location is an integral part of the storytelling process, so finding the right location, visiting it (when possible), securing it, & planning how to use that particular location to help tell the story is important.

  • Prior to your photoshoot, we’ll have a check-in to go over a pre-production deck with all aspects of the plan in it. Depending on the project, this deck will vary in complexity. This is where you can provide any final feedback about the plan and/or sign off on it before heading into the photoshoot!

Photoshoot

We’ve made the plan and now we’re ready to make it happen.

  • Typically photoshoots are just me and you! For tighter schedules or more complex setups, I may bring a set assistant as well.

If you would like to request a hair & makeup artist, wardrone consultant, or any other additional professionals, I’m happy to hire them as needed and when available.

  • I shoot with professional Sony cameras and GM lenses. If you would like more information about specifics, I’m happy to answer any questions you may have!

  • This is when all photos are successfully taken. During this step, I clean up sets, and back up & organize all raw photos to make sure that everything makes it safely back to the editing room.

Editing

My editing style is generally true-to-life editing, which means I will enhance the photos through digital editing, and may photoshop out distracting bits, but overall, I aim to make the final images look and feel true to how they did in the moment. My primary goal with your photos is to portray the genuine energy of the real moment!

  • My editing style aims to enhance the moment, rather than alter reality. It allows viewers to feel the energy within the image.

  • You have a chance to tell me what you think and leave notes for the photos. I want you to LOVE every one of them, so each project comes with 2 rounds of revisions per gallery, although both rounds are rarely needed.

  • All projects are delivered digitally, unless otherwise agreed upon. A download link is emailed straight to your inbox!
