about the project

Quality Housing Coalition launched a direct cash assistance pilot program in which they:

  • Provided direct monthly payments of $1,000 to 20 mothers for one year

  • Supported monthly cohort meetings where participants shared ideas and strategized how the income can best support their families, all while building a community

  • Delivered training on topics the mothers chose such as budgeting, building credit, parenting, child care and career options

The program saw great success in tranforming the lives of these 20 moms and their children.

As the year-long program began to wind down, Quality Housing Coalition called on me to create a documentary-style video, telling the stories of 3 of the inspiring moms in the cohort. This video follows the journey of Allison, Coumba, and Mbala through a year they’ll never forget.
